Hello everybody,
It’s Mental Health Awareness Week in the UK (12-19th May), and this year the theme is COMMUNITY, which just happens to be one of our speciality subjects.
And so the Shelf Help Club is supporting with a series of speedy lunchtime ‘lives’ with my favourite community leaders here on the platform, starting with a session with my Bibliotherapists podcast co-host, Tanya Lynch, founder of Ease Retreats, creator of the
Substack publication, and a therapeutic journalling coach.Tanya and I have both created communities around the seemingly solitary activities of reading and journalling, and so it was great to talk to her about the power of the group, the importance of taking community offline, and how she cultivates her own communities, both professionally and personally.
And we’d both love to know about your favourite online and offline communities so please share in the Comments…
Toni

ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK 2025
The Mental Health Foundation has been leading MHA Week since 2001.
They say: “We want to use this Mental Health Awareness Week to celebrate the power and importance of community.
“Being part of a safe, positive community is vital for our mental health and wellbeing. We thrive when we have strong connections with other people and supportive communities that remind us, we are not alone. Communities can provide a sense of belonging, safety, support in hard times, and give us a sense purpose.”
