Hello everybody,
Did you know that burnout has been classified by the W.H.O. as a global epidemic?
Maybe not, but you probably did know - or could guess - that this occupational hazard affects women significantly more than men.
How many of you reading this are already a burnout expert by experience, I wonder?
Judging by the conversations we have in the Shelf Help community, far too many.
burn·out /noun
physical or mental collapse caused by overwork or stress.
the reduction of a fuel or substance to nothing through use or combustion.
Incase you don’t know - lucky you! - burnout is ‘a health condition caused by chronic workplace stress not being successfully managed. It includes: feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion; increased mental distance from one’s job, or feelings of negativism or cynicism related to one's job; and reduced professional efficacy’. (www.who.it)
But isn’t exhaustion, disassociation and cynicism just par for the course if we want to do big things?! Doesn’t workplace stress just go with the territory of being a successful professional woman?! Don’t most people with big ambitions have to sacrifice their well-being at some point?!
No! Says today’s guest author and expert, Bianca Best.
Bianca is an award-winning global executive, a single mother of four, a sought-after speaker, a highly credentialed coach and a champion of female leadership.
She’s also an un unfortunate burnout aficionado.
After years of suffering mental and emotional exhaustion as her professional and personal life expanded, Bianca’s last burnout experience was in 2015, and she’s spent the years since studying this phenomenon and - crucially - how we can avoid it.
In her new book, Big Impact without Burnout, Bianca introduces us to the idea of graceful productivity, sharing 8 strategies that she has identified to help us ‘hone inner balance for outer shine.’
Personally, as someone who has experienced burnout, and who now wants to do big things with her business without compromising her mental or physical health, I love the concept of graceful productivity, and to celebrate the launch of her new book I invited Bianca to share some of her expertise with our community.

In today’s exclusive masterclass (see video above, an 18-minute watch) Bianca teaches us why managing our energy and understanding our bio-individuality is so important in getting into the flow of graceful productivity, and shares some ideas on how to do it.
Enjoy! (And as a guest author Bianca is co-author on this feature so you can share any questions you have for her in the Comments).
