7 awesome rules for better days at work... and in life

(and 3 reasons why I chose Today Was Fun as our next Book Club read)

Hello everybody

How’s your day going? Is it fun? I hope so. If not, I have the perfect book for you.

Incase you missed the memo, Today Was Fun: A Book About Work (seriously) by

is the Shelf Help Club BOTM for September and October, and here are 3 reasons that I want you to read it:

1. THE COVER!

Who says we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover?! And who says self-help always needs to be serious?! This cover brings me so much joy, and it perfectly captures author Bree’s very simple philosophy: We spend ⅓ of our lives at work. Our lives should be fun. Ergo, work should be fun. It’s that simple.

NB this bright, beautiful cover will also look EXCELLENT in your #shelfie pics, so get posting, people! (or send to me and I will :)).

100% judging this book by its cover…

2. CAPTURE THOSE BACK TO SCHOOL VIBES

September is a brilliant time to harness that ‘back to school’ energy and give some serious thought to the way you spend your days and how you make a living.

If you’re not already having fun, is your job funable? If so, this book will help you find more fun and joy in your current situation.

And if it’s not funable - due to too many demands, too little growth or interest, a nightmare boss who is never leaving, or maybe it’s just a job you’ve grown out of and your languishing - this book will inspire you to find that next great new gig (and our awesome Book Club community is always here to support you to be brave enough to make the jump).

3. BREE’S NON-WORKY RULES FOR BETTER DAYS

I love Bree’s 7 rules for better days - days where your joy matters, your relationships matter, and your creativity and humanity and rest matter.

Because - she says - you deserve to love your days, even Monday to Friday.

Bree’s 7 Rules for better days include:

1. Most work, most days should be fun.

2. Your brain works whether you’re wearing a suit or stretchy pants.

3. Shovelling shit is fun if you like your co-shovellers.

4. Make brilliant work - don’t let busyness and conformity sabotage you.

5. Keep it cool - we’re all in together.

6. You are the defender of date nights, crossword puzzles, and your health.

7. Get good at life not just work.

Bree says:

“We don’t need to continue working as we have been. We don’t need to spend Saturday mornings recovering from work and Sundays preparing for it. We don’t need to disappoint our families and friends because the only energy we have for them is what’s left over after work takes its share.”

We don’t need it, people! There is another way. This book shows us how.

Our guided Read-along starts Monday 15th September.
